Using RealPlayer
Some GenEdWeb courses use audio and/or video files that are "streamed" -- a technology that allows the files to begin to play as soon as they start downloading to your computer. These files require you to have RealPlayer, a free software program from Real.com. RealPlayer handles streaming audio, video, and combined audio/video files.
If you don't already have RealPlayer, you can download the lastest version from the Real.com Web site. At that site, select the RealPlayer version for your computer's operating system. This is an unlimited time free (no fees) player.
When you install RealPlayer, it should configure your Web browser (Netscape and/or Internet Explorer) to launch it automatically whenever you click on a RealAudio or RealVideo file link. You can test your setup by clicking here:
Your browser should launch the RealPlayer, and you should see the video file and hear the audio.
The RealPlayer interface has a play/pause button, a stop button, a rewind button, and a fast forward button. If you want to see or hear a streamed file over again while you have the RealPlayer open, you can simply click the play/pause button again.
If you have any problems, check the RealPlayer technical support pages from Progressive Networks.
