ED 2102 Introduction to Education in a Global Context is for those interested in education, for those who would like to learn more about education from an international perspective, and those considering teaching as a career.

Potential students in this course might include: high school PSEO students who are curious about the education major, college students in any major seeking elective credits, education majors who plan to take ED 2112 International Practicum in Elementary Education or ED 2113 International Practicum in Secondary Education, and licensed educators seeking CE credit or new strategies for teaching.

Course Description: Introduction to the teaching profession through application of a global perspective to the study of issues in education.

Fulfills UMM General Education Requirement: category IP (International Perspective)

Note for Education majors: It is recommended that this course be completed in combination with a preprofessional field experience in another country, such as ED 2112 International Practicum in Elementary Education, or ED 2113 International Practicum in Secondary Education through the University of Minnesota, Morris.

Instructor: Pamela Solvie, Associate Professor of Education, joined the UMM Education faculty in 2003, and teaches courses that focus on reading methods, language arts, children's literature, and foundations of education. Solvie received her Ph.D. from Penn State University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy and Language. Her research interests lie in the areas of critical pedagogy and literacy and language development including literacy instruction as supported by computer technology; social, historical, and cultural constructions of literacy; and applications, as well as implications of literacy practices and policies.
